Does It Feel Lucky?

Just Because It Feels Lucky, Doesn’t Mean It Is

March is the month of four-leaf clovers, pots of gold, and a little extra “luck”.  But when it comes to your finances, luck isn’t a strategy — and fraudsters are counting on that.

If something feels like you’ve struck gold… it might be time to take a second look.

Scammers love to disguise fraud as “good fortune.” Surprise winnings, limited-time investment opportunities, unexpected refunds — they’re designed to feel exciting. And when emotions are high, it’s easier to overlook red flags.

Before you celebrate your “lucky break,” pause and ask yourself:

💰 Did I enter a contest I supposedly won?

If you didn’t buy a ticket or enter a drawing, there’s no prize waiting for you.

📈 Is this investment promising guaranteed returns?

There’s no such thing as a risk-free pot of gold. High returns with no risk is one of the biggest fraud warning signs.

📦 Am I being asked to pay fees upfront to receive money?

Legitimate organizations don’t require payment to release prize money, loans, or inheritances.

📱 Did this opportunity come through an unexpected text, email, or social media message?

Scammers often create urgency and excitement to prevent you from slowing down and verifying.

🍀 COMMON "LUCKY" SCAMS TO WATCH OUT FOR

  • Lottery & Sweepstakes Scams – “You’ve won!” (But only after you pay taxes or fees.)
  • Romance Scams – A fast-moving connection that suddenly needs financial help.
  • Investment & Cryptocurrency Scams – Big promises, guaranteed returns, and pressure to act now.
  • Refund or Reimbursement Scams – Surprise money from a company you don’t do business with.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

🛑 HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

Instead of relying on luck, rely on smart habits:

Slow down — urgency is a red flag
Verify directly with the company using a trusted phone number or website
Never share online banking credentials or secure access codes
Talk to someone you trust before sending money

A quick pause can save you from a costly mistake.
